Entitled, “Plague in Madagascar”, this image was captured by EIS Officer, Boris Pavlin, MD, in the Special Pathogens Branch, DVRD. A patient suspected of having pneumonic plague recovers during a clinical trial in Madagascar. The man outside the boy’s window was his father, who’d carried his son 7km, in order to receive his antibiotic treatment. This photo earned Dr. Pavlin the Third Place award in the 2006 CDC Connects Annual Public Health in Action Photo Contest, in the category of “International People”.
