The photo depicts an Angolan woman in M’Banza Congo, who was seated on her clinic bed, being treated for African trypanosomiasis, also known as sleeping sickness, during a CDC surveillance project, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Angolan Ministry of Health (MoH). This photo earned Benjamin the First Place award in the 2006 CDC Connects Annual Public Health in Action Photo Contest, in the category of Programs-International.
