This photograph depicts a palmar view of a patient’s left hand, revealing the presence of herpes simplex lesions on the ring finger of patient with meningococcal meningitis. Living in the dorsal root ganglia of the spinal cord, under stressful conditions, the herpes viruses migrate along the pathways of peripheral nerve distribution.
