This image depicts a human heart that had been opened in such a manner, as to expose the heart’s interior, highlighting the organ’s left ventricle, and aortic valve. The specimen was harvested from a patient who had succumbed to an illness known as bacterial endocarditis. The responsible pathogen was not indicated.
