Each of these six test tubes contained an unidentified growth medium, which had been inoculated with the downy strain of the fungal organism, Trichophyton mentagrophytes. The specimens were harvested from the feet of an individual with a case of tinea pedis, the name given to a dermatophytic fungal infection of the feet.
