Under a magnification of 475X, this photomicrograph of a horse hair shaft, revealed the histopathologic changes due to a dermatophytic infection caused by the fungal organism, Microsporum canis. The internalization of the shaft infection, evidenced by the numerous spores and hyphae inside the shaft, meant that this was categorized as an endothrix.
