Caption:
Under a magnification of 125X, this photomicrograph revealed some of the ultrastructural morphology exhibited by this dermatophytic fungal organism, which was a species of Gymnoascus, labeled strain I-97. This view offered a close look at one of the organism’s cleistothecia, with its ragged outer wall, known as a peridium, which enclosed numerous reproductive cells, that were grouped into structures referred to as asci. For a closer view of this structure’s peridial outer wall, see PHIL 22199.
