This photograph showed the symptoms manifested on the surface of the skin, due to the effects of a third-degree burn, on this patient’s left anterior thigh. Note the area of erythema, which surrounded an open wound, the periphery of which consisted of charred cutaneous tissue. The erythematous region was composed of skin that experienced first, and second-degree burn effects. The cause of this burn was not identified.
