This photomicrograph revealed some of the ultrastructural morphology associated with a condition known as white piedra, which had been caused by a Trichosporon sp. fungal organism, in the case, infecting a monkey. Note how the fungal spores were located inside the confines of this hair shaft, making this an endothrix dermatophytosis.
