Caption:
This photograph depicted a left posterior-oblique view of a patient’s head, which revealed an area of his scalp that had been denuded of its overlying hair. The exposed scalp was erythematous, and the skin was thickened and crusty, which had been caused by the dermatophytic fungal organism, Trichophyton mentagrophytes.
