Captured in 1964, this photograph depicted the façade of what at the time, was the newly constructed Public Health Service’s (PHS), Communicable Disease Center (CDC), Field Station, located in Kansas City, Kansas. By the sign at right, you are able to see that this facility was under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Health, Education & Welfare (HEW), which would eventually become the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in 1979. The Communicable Disease Center (CDC) was renamed the modern day Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 1992.
