This 1963 image, depicted two staff members performing duties inside the utility section suite within the United States Public Health Service (USPHS), Venereal Disease Research Laboratory (VDRL). The VDRL was part of the Venereal Disease Branch of the USPHS, and was located on the campus of the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Public Health in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. This particular area of the suite housed the wash, preparation, and autoclave machinery. The VDRL was later renamed, as the Treponemal Pathogenesis and Immunology Branch of the USPHS.
