This photograph depicted a close view of a Petri dish culture plate containing a growth medium of blood heart infusion (BHI) agar, and which had given rise to two, irregularly-shaped, rough-type bacterial colonies, which were derived from Actinomyces israelii bacteria, strain X-838, serotype-2. The colony on the left was considered a mature colony
