This image depicts a young man reading a handheld thermometer after taking his temperature. Many people infected with Zika virus will not have symptoms, or will only have mild symptoms. The most common symptoms of Zika are fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis (red eyes). The best way to prevent Zika is to protect yourself from mosquito bites.
Additional Information:
“Other Zika symptoms include muscle pain and headache. People with Zika virus usually do not get sick enough to go to the hospital and they very rarely die of Zika. Zika is spread primarily by the bite of Aedes species mosquitoes (Ae. aegypti and Ae. albopictus).”
