This historic 1961 photograph, was captured during the dedication ceremony of what at the time, was this newly constructed, Public Health Service’s (PHS), Communicable Disease Center (CDC), Field Station, located in Kansas City, Kansas. At that time, this facility was under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Health, Education & Welfare (HEW), which would eventually become the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in 1979, and the Communicable Disease Center has since been renamed to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 1992.
