Captured in 1961, this photograph depicted the front of the newly constructed, Public Health Service’s (PHS), Communicable Disease Center (CDC), Field Station, located in Kansas City, Kansas. At the time, this facility was under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Health, Education & Welfare (HEW), which would eventually become the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in 1979. This view included aspects of the front entranceway, and the marquee, “CDC - Maurice L. Breidenthal Laboratory”.
