This image depicted both an anteroposterior (AP) chest x-ray of the left, and a left lateral chest x-ray on the right, which revealed pathologic changes in the patient’s lung fields, due to a condition known as mycoplasma pneumonia, caused by a Mycoplasma pneumoniae bacterial infection. This was early on in the disease process, but you can still discern the increases in infiltrates in the lower aspects of both lungs, as well the bilateral hilar adenopathy. See PHIL 21524, for a view of this patient’s lung fields 2-days later, revealing further increase in consolidation of left lower lobe infiltrates, which is compared to a view after recovery from the illness.
