Caption:
The young girl depicted here, sustained a number of insect bites about her upper back. Note how these vesicular lesions resembled what was initially thought to be a case of chickenpox, caused by the varicella zoster virus (VZV), also known as Human herpesvirus 3 (HHV-3). See PHIL 21508, for a view of this girl’s neck and upper chest, which revealed the presence of additional sites of insect bite erythema.
