This view of a patient’s skin, revealed a maculopapular rash, which had been due to an outbreak of shingles, caused by the varicella zoster virus (VZV), and importantly, had taken place along the dermatomal innervation of the T10 – T11 thoracic nerves emanating from the spinal cord at these two levels.
