This close view of a patient’s skin, revealed a maculopapular rash, which had been due to an outbreak of shingles, caused by the varicella zoster virus (VZV), also known as Human herpesvirus 3 (HHV-3). The outbreak had taken place along the dermatomal innervation of the T10 – T11 thoracic nerves, emanating from the spinal cord at these two levels. This is a closer view of PHIL 21506.
