Caption:
This historic image from 1965, depicted a clinician in the process of performing a ringworm examination upon a young boy, by using a Wood’s lamp, which was aimed at the back of the patient’s head and neck. Using an ultraviolet, or black light, the beam was shone upon the patient’s skin, or hair. In the presence of Microsporum spp. fungal organisms, areas of infected skin, or hair, would fluoresce a blue-green color, confirming the presence of a dermatophytic fungal infection.
