Under a magnification of 500X, this photomicrograph depicted a view of a hair shaft, harvested from a Guinea pig, Cavia porcellus, which had been perforated by the dermatophytic fungal organism, Trichophyton simii. The fact that this infection had invaded the internal structure of the hair shaft, classified this infection as an endothrix.
