This was a photomicrograph of a section of bone, which had been extracted from the growth plate of a patient with rickets. The histopathologic changes seen in this specimen, through the region of the epiphyseal plate, suggested that this patient was in the middle stage of the disease. Important during this stage, the zone between cartilage and bone becomes more cytoarchitecturally deranged, which was due to the invasion of numerous blood vessels.
