This photomicrograph revealed some of the histopathologic changes exhibited in a section of liver tissue, harvested from a pellagra patient, deficient in vitamin B3. Important here, was the phenomenon known as periportal fatty infiltration, evidenced by the hepatocytic deposition of lipids, in the form of triglycerides, imparting a white character to the normally pink-staining hepatocytes, surrounding the liver’s vascular portal triads.
