Caption:
This photomicrograph revealed some of the histopathologic changes exhibited in a section of skin tissue, harvested from a pellagra patient. Note the hyperkeratosis overlying the lesion, and at its periphery, the developing hyperpigmentation. Also visible, was the separation occurring between the upper epidermal layers, and the underlying corium, or dermis. It’s within the dermal layer that many new fibroblasts had been deposited, and in its superficial level, dilated blood vessels were visible.
