Under a magnification of 1125X, this photomicrograph revealed numerous Gram-negative, rod-shaped, Shigella sp. bacteria, which had been grown on heart-infusion agar, and incubated for a 24-hour time period. In this case, this strain of Shigella was streptomycin-dependent.
