This photomicrograph of a thin film blood smear, was extracted from a patient who had been undergoing antimalarial treatment for a Plasmodium vivax infection, for an undisclosed time period. Important here, was the disintegration of the cytoplasm, which was taking place within each parasitic trophozoite.
