Under a low magnification of 50X, this photomicrograph revealed the presence of a scolex, of an immature tapeworm, which was inside a coenurus. The scolex represents the anterior end of a tapeworm, upon which resides the hooks, and suckers that keep the worm attached to the intestinal mucosal lining. Coenurosis is an infection by tapeworms, either Taenia multiceps, or T. serialis.
