This photomicrograph depicted two white blood cells (WBCs), or leukocytes, that were found in a peritoneal fluid sample, harvested from the abdominal cavity of a mouse that had been experimentally infected with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. Note the WBC on the left, which contained a number of phagocytized L. monocytogenes organisms.
