Entitled, “EIS Recruitment”, this image was captured by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Scientific Advisor for Public Affairs, and Captain in the USPHS, Jennifer McQuiston, DVM, MS. Recruiting the best and brightest into CDC’s Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) is critical to ensure a well-trained public health workforce into the future. Here, CDC photographer, Jim Gathany, was shooting a series of photos of EIS Officer, Leisha Nolen, in a typical field setting. These photos will be used to strengthen CDC’s recruiting efforts for EIS in 2015, and beyond. Jim was willing to give his all for the shot, getting down into the mud, in order to capture the iconic, sole-of-the-shoe shot, demonstrating the EIS program’s commitment to shoe-leather epidemiology. This photo earned CAPT McQuiston the Third Place award in the 2015 CDC Connects Annual Public Health in Action Photo Contest, in the category of “Domestic People and Programs”.
