This image depicted a lateral view of a female Latrodectus tredecimguttatus, or Mediterranean black widow spider, formerly Latrodectus mactans subsp. tredecimguttatus, with her black cephalothorax, legs and abdomen, which was adorned with thirteen orange spots. This specimen was captured in the former city of Pula, Yugoslavia, now Pula, Croatia, and was shown here, seated motionlessly atop her web, while awaiting prey.
