Caption:
This photograph depicted a close inferior view of a female brown widow spider, Latrodectus geometricus, as she was poised in her web awaiting prey. Note the characteristic orange-colored hourglass, located on her inferior abdominal surface, which can vary in coloration from yellowish, to shades of orange. Drop for drop, the neurotoxic poison produced by Latrodectus geometricus, is as toxic as its cousin, the black widow, Latrodectus mactans.
