Caption:
Under a magnification of 26X, this epi-illuminated micrograph of a soil-hair culture plate focused on a number of fuzzy, spheroid-shaped, Trichophyton mentagrophytes cleistothecia, which were the fruiting bodies of this fungal organism, also known as ascocarps, each containing many sexual spore-bearing cells known as asci. In this case, the organism was a teleomorph, or end-stage phase, of T. mentagrophytes, known as, Arthroderma benhamiae.
