Viewed from the front, this soil-hair culture plate appeared to be coated with a fuzzy white powder, which proved to be a colonization by the fungal organism Trichophyton mentagrophytes. In this case, the organism was a teleomorph, or end-stage phase, of T. mentagrophytes, known as, Arthroderma benhamiae.
