Under a magnification of 41X, this photomicrograph depicted a view of a hair shaft, which had been perforated by the dermatophytic fungal organism, Trichophyton gloriae. The fact that this infection had invaded the internal structure of the hair shaft, classified it as an endothrix, rather than an exothrix, which would be confined to the hair’s exterior surface.
