Caption:
This scanning electron microscopic (SEM) image depicts the distal ends of a number of Curvularia geniculata conidiophore, from which sprouted a number of reproductive conidiospores. Though normally found living in soil or decaying vegetation, the fungus, C. geniculata is pathogenic to humans, causing wound infections known as phaeohyphomycosis, which can involve a number of bodily structures including the skin, respiratory tract, and brain, to name a few.
