This 1962 illustration, by Chester J. Stojanovich, depicted a dorsal view of a brown recluse spider, Loxosceles reclusa. Important in its identification, was the violin-shaped, dark-brown marking on its dorsal cephalothorax, which was its fused cephalic (head) and thoracic regions.
