Caption:
This image depicted a cow’s tongue, which had been excised from the animal, and incised down its midline exposing its interior. This involved a case of bovine actinobacillosis, also referred to as wooden tongue disease, which is caused by a member of the bacterial genus, Actinobacillus. Note the generalized inflammation of these soft tissues, and the presence of numerous nodular lesions, representing bacterial colonization within the tongue’s soft tissues.
