Caption:
This photomicrograph of a thick film human blood smear, extracted from a patient with a malarial infection, revealed the presence of a number of lightly-staining, ring-staged, Plasmodium falciparum trophozoites. All that was visible of the rings, was each ring's chromatin dot. The clump of particulates on the left represented a grouping of platelets.
