This photomicrograph of a thin film human blood smear, extracted from a patient with a malarial infection, revealed the presence of three fimbriated, ovoid-shaped red blood cells (RBCs), each of which contained a ring-staged, Plasmodium ovale trophozoite. Each infected RBC also exhibited numerous Schüffner's dots.
