This Nigerian infant had opened his mouth, thereby, exposing the palate, and a defect in this region that was determined to be a congenital abnormality known as a cleft palate, enabling one to see into the baby’s nasal cavity above. In this case, the upper lip was also cleft, including it in this embryonic developmental abnormality.
