Caption:
The young Nigerian boy depicted here, was photographed in a clinical setting after having sustained severe burns to his arms, chest, and lower extremities. The cause for these injuries was not identified. At the moment this image was captured, this patient had started the burn wound debridement process, and skin grafts had already been placed over some of the child’s burns. Much more in the way of burn wound care had yet to be performed, as can be seen by the presence of necrotic skin, which would have to be removed on his arms, abdomen, and thighs.
