This was an intraoperative view captured during a procedure that would repair a defect to an infant Nigerian female’s urinary bladder known as a patent urachus. The urachus, indicated by the arrowheads, was ligated, thereby, closing off the patent pathway, by which urine contained in the bladder, could leak out through the patient’s abdominal wall. See PHIL 20249, for a preoperative view of the baby’s umbilical defect, and PHIL 20331, for a post-operative view depicting the healed umbilical region of her abdominal wall.
