Under a magnification of 1150X, this photomicrograph of a Gram-stained specimen, revealed the presence of numerous Gram-negative, Streptobacillus moniliformis, rod-shaped bacteria. Note the characteristic filamentous, non-branching morphology displayed by these bacterial chains. You can also see here, what are termed, lateral bulbar swellings exhibited by some of these organisms.
