This September, 2013 image depicts members of the oral cholera vaccine (OCV) campaign team in the process of surveying the rural lands of the Haitian commune of Cerca Carvajal. Before teams start to visit the houses to interview residents, the field coordinators delineate the area to be surveyed to ensure that interviewers are in the right location. In this picture, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Medical Epidemiologist, Rania Tohme, MD, MPH, was checking the boundaries of the selected area to be surveyed with the field coordinator. In rural areas, teams have to walk for hours, under the hot sun, through different kinds of terrain, to merely move from one house to the next.
