This image depicted Georgia Laboratory of the Ministry of Agriculture staff member, and 2011 graduate of the South Caucasus, Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program (FELTP), Maka Kokhreidze, DMV, preparing laboratory samples, following the discovery of a novel orthopoxvirus in a shepherd, who was located in the town of Tianeti, in East-Central Georgia, in September 2013. Here, clad in her complement of personal protective equipment (PPE), including blue-colored latex gloves and smock, Dr. Kokhreidze was in the process of pipetting specimen solution into small test tubes, which she would then subject to precise analyses.
