Photographed almost 2-years after the island nation’s devastating 2010 earthquake, this image depicted Haitian Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) resident, Dr. Pierre Wilnique, as he was collecting water samples for an epidemiologic survey, focusing on an outbreak of typhoid fever in Nan Mango (Cais), on the Island of La Gonave, Haiti, in September 2011. You can see villagers waiting to take water from this same source. Note that Dr. Wilnique was wearing his FETP shirt displaying the well-recognized symbol of the worn-out shoe of the tireless epidemiologist.
