Taken during a 2012 schistosomiasis outbreak, this image depicts Zimbabwean Field Epidemiology Training Program (ZFETP) resident, Dr. Pugie Chimberengwa (white shirt) assisted by Mrs. Frozina Ndlovu (left), a nurse’s aide from the Empandeni rural health center, as they were conducting a mass drug administration exercise of the anthelmintic medication, Praziquantel, among school pupils in a classroom at Kwite Primary School.
Additional Information:
This type of mass drug administration had been done on 242 pupils at the start of this schistosomiasis outbreak investigation, however, 45 pupils and dropouts who had missed that prophylactic dose, were dosed during a “culture day” celebration at the school, in the Mangwe district, located in the South province of Matebeleland, Zimbabwe (see PHIL 19863).
