This image depicts a woodrat of the genus, Neotoma, while inside its glass enclosure. This, and other woodrat species, are known to harbor fleas known to carry Yersinia pestis bacteria, which may be transmitted to human beings through flea bites. Y. pestis is the pathogenic organism responsible for causing bubonic plague.
