This image depicts a right lateral view of a young patient in Nigeria, ill with the fungal infection known as subcutaneous mucormycosis (phycomycosis), a form of zygomycosis. Note the extreme swelling of the soft tissues of the face in the region of the patient’s maxilla, mandible, and neck due to the infection.
